Why We Love This!
Asafoetida, also known as hing, is a powerful carminative spice. In Ayurveda, we use it to flavor all kinds of dishes - it's often used to soak and cook beans, lentils, and grains. It's often referred to as nature's "beano."
No other spice has the power to break down starchy carbohydrates or de-gas beans and lentils. If you're allergic to garlic or onions, use asafoetida. It's simple to use & FODMAP compliant. Contains no wheat or rice.
Although its initial aroma lands somewhere between sulfur and raw onion, it mellows into a gorgeous leek and garlic flavor when cooked. So, despite what you think when you first smell it, it's delicious!
Note: Many brands of asafoetida commonly available in the US contain wheat. This blend contains fenugreek to prevent the resin from clumping. It does NOT contain wheat or rice.
